Velo front and centre at McLaren F1 car launch

20 FEBRUARY 2023

McLaren’s new car for the upcoming 2023 Formula 1 season has been unveiled in a ceremony held at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, UK.

The car – the MCL60 – revealed at the unveiling featured the branding of our Velo modern oral brand, putting BAT's A Better Tomorrow™ transformation on the global F1 stage once again.

This is the fifth year of our multi-year partnership with McLaren, aimed at driving awareness of our transformation, which has our portfolio of New Category products, including Velo, at its heart.

Alongside Velo, branding for our global No1 vapour brand Vuse and A Better Tomorrow™ will all feature on the MCL60 throughout the year. Named MCL60 in honour of Bruce McLaren founding McLaren 60 years ago in 1963, the car is once again adorned in McLaren’s famous papaya and blue colours.

Principal partner

Luca Angiolillo, BAT’s Head of McLaren Partnership, said: “It’s always a proud moment to see our New Category products featuring on the McLaren car. This partnership gives us truly global marketing to drive a step-change in the awareness of our New Category business, focused on creating A Better Tomorrow for our consumers, shareholders, society and employees.”

A few miles away from the unveiling ceremony, loyal McLaren fans gathered in London to share their excitement while enjoying a unique fan experience. The fans watched the exciting reveal live from the exclusive Velo People’s Paddock, where they were treated to another first look – at the innovative Mika Hakkinen AI Experience.

The MCL60’s official on-track debut will take place during the pre-season test in Bahrain on 23 February ahead of the season’s opening race at the Bahrain Grand Prix on 5 March.

McLaren head into this season with an exciting new driver pairing: Australian rookie Oscar Piastri joins Britain’s Lando Norris.
