Sustainability report wins ‘Openness and Honesty’ award

10 AUGUST 2020

Award is an endorsement of BAT’s transparent reporting on key sustainability challenges.

BAT has won the “Openness and Honesty” award for our 2018 Sustainability Report at the prestigious Corporate Register Reporting (CRR) Awards 2020.

Now in its 13th year, the CRR Awards recognise the very best in corporate responsibility reporting, and are the only independent, global annual awards in this field.

At BAT, we recognise that ESG is an increasingly important consideration for investors and that providing clear, open and transparent information is key to aid their investment decisions. As such, the Openness and Honesty award is an important endorsement of our approach to providing important information on our most significant sustainability challenges in a balanced way.

81 organisations from around the world submitted 152 entries for consideration and nearly 4,000 highly informed corporate responsibility specialists cast their votes independently across the 11 separate award categories.

Jennie Galbraith, BAT’s Head of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) said: “As part of our commitment to building A Better Tomorrow, ESG is front and centre of everything that we do as a business. We understand the outside world wants to know how we are addressing our key sustainability challenges and they need this information in an honest and accessible format. As such, we are delighted to be acknowledged for our work in this area and are committed to continuing to provide information regarding our ESG efforts in clear and transparent ways.”

BAT was also awarded second runner up in the “Relevance and Materiality” category, which recognises companies who report on material issues clearly and succinctly.

Paul Scott, Director of Corporate Register, added: "BAT was a clear winner in the CRRA'20 'Openness & Honesty' category, voted by our online stakeholders. That's quite an achievement for a company operating in their sector and shows how far the business has come in addressing stakeholder issues in a clear, open and transparent way."

The CRR Award is the latest recognition for BAT’s ESG-related activities with recent awards including: inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability IndicesRobecoSAM Sustainability Award - Gold ClassSustainability, Environmental Achievement and Leadership (SEAL) Awards - top 50 most sustainable companiesCarbon Disclosure Project - A list for climate change; and BAT was once again recognised as a Global Top Employer.
